How a Music Tutor Helps You Learn to Play the Piano

Ron, President, Capital Music Center

Through the use of MIDI technology, the Music Tutor teaches a student how to play the piano by example.  It’s our nature to emulate and the Music Tutor takes that into account.

Music Tutor looks kind of like a cable box, but insert a MIDI disk into the Tutor and it will play a song from the disk much like a CD or cassette player would.  The tutor ‘teaches’ by playing a song while a student simultaneously plays it on the piano.  The tempo can be slowed down or sped up.  The student can press a button to have the Tutor take out the left hand’s notes, so the student can play only those notes on the piano; meanwhile, the Tutor is continuing to play the right hand’s notes so the song sounds complete.  The Tutor can repeat a troublesome passage until it is mastered.

Probably the biggest advantage of Music Tutor is that it allows learning to be fun.  With the press of a button, a person playing a fairly simple song on the piano can have the sounds of an entire symphony accompanying him or her.

The reason people quit piano lessons is because they’re not making music, they’re learning a piece.  Music Tutor fills in the gaps to make music for you until you are doing it yourself.

Some models of Music Tutors can even be used for composing one’s own music, by using the recording feature.
