How to find Midi Files & Popular Midi Sites

Capital Music Center's intent in publishing links to the following websites is to provide a small sampling of the thousands of MIDI File sites available. Many MIDI Files are available free on the Internet, and others are commercially available. Capital Music Center makes no claims regarding the legality of content on these links, nor do we support the unauthorized copying of MIDI files.  MIDI File renditions of music for which the copyright has not yet expired are not in the public-domain and cannot legally be performed, distributed or published on your own web page. If you find a copyrighted MIDI File that you want to use, you must obtain permission from the copyright holder. For more information on copyrights, please visit www.ascap.com.

How to find Midi Files on the Internet:

1.      Use any search engine (yahoo, google, etc.) and type in the name of the composer/artist or song title followed by the word midi.  Examples, beethoven midi, amazing grace midi, elton john midi.  You may have to experiment using mid, midi, midi files.

2.      Click on Search.

3.      Look at the list of sites that the search engine found, when you see one that looks interesting, click on it.

4.      Look for the list of midi files and click on the one you want:

a.       Left click:  your computer will either ask you if you want to download it or open it, or it will start playing the song.

b.      Right click:  you can “save target as”

5.      Insert a 3½ Floppy Disk* or a USB Flash Drive

6.      Click download or save and then save it to your   Floppy Drive or USB Flash Drive

7.      Insert the Floppy Disk or Flash Drive into your Roland Digital Piano or Music Tutor

A note about your Roland instrument that has a floppy disk drive.  Are you thinking that your instrument…Roland Music Tutor or Roland Digital Piano, or Yamaha or any other brand for that matter…is obsolete because it has a floppy disk drive?  Please don’t worry about it.

1.      WE have over 1000 books packaged with MIDI disks in stock.

2.      Computers today no longer come standard with a floppy drive.  You can also purchase a USB floppy drive for around $30 from www.tigerdirect.com.  This is a good investment considering you will probably have your musical instrument that has a floppy drive built-in to it for the next 25 years and your computer will be replaced every 3 to 5 years.  Additionally, even as of April 2009, 99% of books packaged with MIDI files are still on a floppy disk.  There will eventually be change, but it still may be several years off, and in the meantime you or your child can STILL benefit from the use of MIDI files in piano lessons TODAY.

3.      We are beginning to see a few books appear on the market that are being packaged with a CD that contains Audio (wav / MP3) and MIDI files. You can use your computer to copy the MIDI files from the CD-ROM to the Floppy Disk.

4.      With the USB Floppy drive you can download MIDI files from the net.

5.      MIDI files are so small that you can easily fit ONE to TWO hours worth of music on ONE floppy disk.  A MIDI file is a set of instructions rather than recorded sound.  Just for comparison, you can only fit ONE minute of an MP3 on a floppy disk.  So even if MIDI files are on a CD they can still be copied to a floppy disk and will easily fit.

6.      Another option:  Do you want to trade your old Roland in for a new one?  YES we take trade in’s and YES they retain good value, probably more than you think.
