Karla

Teacher of Kindermusik & Music For Little Mozarts

Karla grew up in a very musical family in the Washington D.C. area.  She began her musical education at age 2 ½, studying piano for 14 years through high school.  She attended St. John’s College, “The Great Books School” in Annapolis, MD, and completed the intensive classical interdisciplinary program in Philosophy, Literature, Music, Languages and Sciences to earn her B.A. degree.

In college, Karla shifted her musical focus from the piano and began to hone her songwriting craft on the classical guitar and voice, drawing upon her South American and Middle Eastern folk roots, and her classical piano education to forge her own musical style. Her interest in Kindermusik also began while in college, and upon graduation, Karla earned her Maryland Preschool Teacher certification and began teaching in preparation.

Her performance career eventually led her to Austin, where she has continued her work with children as a preschool Spanish and computers teacher, and as a private nanny.  She has finally reached her long-time goal of merging her work with children and her work in music by earning her Kindermusik certification.  She is also a guitarist, singer and songwriter.

Karla and her husband Thomas, a violinist, saxophonist and recording engineer, perform together regularly in Austin, and they also own and operate their own recording studio, ToneHaus.
