Karla Piano Teacher
Karla grew up in a
very musical family in the In college, Karla shifted her musical focus
from the piano and began to hone her songwriting craft on the classical
guitar and voice, drawing upon her South American and Middle Eastern folk
roots, and her classical piano education to forge her own musical style. Her
interest in Kindermusik also began while in
college, and upon graduation, Karla earned her Maryland Preschool Teacher
certification and began teaching in preparation. Her performance career eventually led her
to Karla and her husband Thomas, a violinist,
saxophonist and recording engineer, perform together regularly in Austin, and
they also own and operate their own recording studio, ToneHaus. Here’s what Karla’s
students have to say about her: “Just a brief note to let you know how
extraordinarily pleased Chloe's mom and I were to hear Emma and Chloe perform
Eleanor Rigby. They sounded really great and your arrangement was wonderful.
Chloe has great potential, but it is so hard to channel it. I know, because I
am the one who sits by her every day practicing her assignments. So I truly
appreciate your work. And my heart melted when I heard the two kids perform,
and perform well on the spot. The arrangement sealed it. Love the cello part.
It's perfect!” Regards, Your fan and Chloe's dad, Steve M. “She is so patient and sweet with him and
the other kids. He has learned a lot from her in a short time.” –Deann G, mother of Andrew “My son originally started piano to pass the
time while he was in casts (both feet) during the summer. I would have NEVER guessed my
running/jumping boy would love the piano as much as he does. We are extremely pleased with his
instructor Karla. She is personable,
talented and does an excellent job at breaking down her skill to a high
energy level 5yr old boy which keeps it interesting and fun for him. He never dreads going to piano but gets
very excited to practice and learn new songs from Karla. The lessons are creatively set-up using
artwork, props (toy bear/mouse), and paced out enough to allow my son's 5yr
old brain to absorb the "how to's" of the
black and white keys. The workbooks
are easy for a non-music mama to follow along and the songs are catchy. We enjoy using the Music Tutor MIDI files
because they really help teach my son a tempo he can progress with. It's also so user friendly that he's
learned to operate it independently and does so frequently without my
help. We're really pleased with the
program and impressed with the teacher.
It's a long drive for us commuting
from Austin to San Marcos where I pick Skyler
up from school and back into North Austin in a day's journey but he loves Karla
so much and has grown to enjoy the piano so much that the drive is worth it.”
--Christina J “You are a true blessing in our lives. And I
think that is why people keep asking me where we go - they see my two boys
taking piano and loving it. And they can't believe their eyes. I love
referring my friends to you. I have told them that we hopped around and keep
coming back to you and “Lessons are excellent, and so is the teacher.
She takes the time needed for the kids to learn in a fun way. We love practicing with the Music tutor.
With Ms. Karla’s notes it is super simple to practice at home. Our kids are progressing very well….
We are surprised that our 3-almost 4 year old could start so soon! Thank you for having such a loving
environment. The kids love being there! --Ale & John H, parents of John
