Catherine

Piano Faculty

A former Houstonian, Catherine came to Austin eager to study music at the University of Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Studies. She studied piano with the chair of the piano department, Dr. Betty Mallard, and choral music studies with Dr. Suzanne Pence. After graduation, Catherine taught voice and served as choral accompanist in the Eanes Independent School District before joining the piano faculty of Capital Music Center. Catherine has been immersed in music since the age of four when she began learning piano, and in addition to her studies and performances in piano and voice spent years playing the violin. In her free time, Catherine takes advantage of Austin’s reputation as the “Live Music Capital of the World” by composing original music for and performing with her own band.

Here’s what Ms. Catherine’s students have to say about her:

“Ms Catherine always tries to adjust the lessons to fit the kid’s progress.  She is kind, encouraging, but always keeps the kids on the right track.  We couldn’t be happier!” –Chunyan, parent of Persephone

“My daughter does fine in the small group setting and as she is very competitive, she strives to be ahead.  We very much like Ms. Catherine.  She is patient, kind, encouraging of Emily to do more and to push her.  She's simply great!  Good program, excellent teacher, would recommend it to others whose kids are comfortable in the group lesson settings.” –Suznne D, parent of Emily
